Ear Stapling
Ear stapling has been around for over two decades. In our opinion, it is a combination of auricular therapy, acupressure and acupuncture. We call it staple puncture or acupressure with stapling because it is a variation of auriculotheraphy that places the staple at key pressure points to target weight loss, stress, tension, migraines and smoking cessation. Auricular therapy or ear puncture utilize your body's "micro system" of the ear to treat certain parts of the body. It has been shown scientifically that different points in the ear demonstrate higher electrical conductivity when their related organ or tissue is stressed, unbalanced, or diseased. Through treatment of such points, the energy flow is theorized to be enhanced to this area of the body. The increase of energy to an area of imbalance will potentially result in improvement in the physical as well as energetic state of the body.
What is Ear Stapling?
A tiny surgical stainless steel staple that is positioned in the inner cartilage of the ear between specific pressure points to target weight loss, stress, tension, smoking cessation and other problems effecting the body.
How does the staple work?
The staple works by applying pressure to the acupressure points in the ear. It sends a signal to the brain that you are satisfied and eliminates cravings for food, sugar and tobacco.
How long does it last?
It can last from 2 to 3 months, but is very individualized. As long as the staple is applying adequate pressure to the point, it is effective until your body gets used to the stimulant and the staple has to be removed and replaced.
Does it hurt?
It is compared to having your ears pierced. Some say that it hurts for a few minutes and then subsides, and others say it does not hurt at all. Once again, each person is different in how they respond to the staple. Your ear may be sore for a couple of days, similar to having your ears pierced. The area may be slightly red, but if they are throbbing or swollen after 24 hours then please call us to have them removed. You MUST massage the area right below the tip of your cheekbone closest to the opening of the ear, 6 to 8 times a day for twenty seconds. This helps to stimulate the pressure points. You should drink 24 oz of water a day, but more is ideal. It is believed that stapling this area of the ears suppresses your appetite and curbs certain cravings your body has.
Ear Stapling and Smoking Cessation
By targeting specific points in the ear that corresponds to the mouth and diaphragm, the staple is able to target specific areas to best control your cravings for cigarettes. The staples work to send energy to the area and help correct the imbalance in the body. The imbalance that is occurring in that you are smoking. The staples help restore the normal balance in the body. The pressure points targeted provide the 24 hours constant pressure to the targeted area. On one end of the scale, we have clients who have smoked as much as 3 packs a day totally quit after having the staples placed the first day. On the other end of the scale, we have noticed people that smoke as little as 1 pack per day only decrease to 1 pack a week. The degree of suppression varies depending on the person and there is no way to know how mild or severe your desire will be suppressed. There is about a 75 - 85% success rate with ear staples for smoking. The reason is that smoking percent success rate with ear staples for smoking. The reason is that smoking is a lot of habit and you will have to change your routine in your life when you get ready to stop smoking.
Most clients stapled for smoking state that the staples can reduce tobacco cravings as well as making the smell and taste of cigarettes objectionable. Most common reports are they taste like metal, air, paper, nothing (any tastes), nauseates me, and headaches after smoking. Massaging your pressure point is very important after getting stapled and before you smoke.
When you have been 8 - 12 weeks and have not had a cigarette, you can remove your staples and you should not have a desire or craving to smoke again.
Smoking Cessation
Smoking addiction is due to the nicotine into the bloodstream, which then occupies the brain endorphin receptor sites. Endorphins are natural opium-like chemicals released by the brain that makes us feel good. Its release is stimulated mainly by physical exercise and spiritual activities such as praying or medication.
Nicotine suppresses the brain's production of endorphins and occupies the receptor sites in the brain, making the smoker feel good as long as he or she continues smoking. When a smoker stops smoking, the endorphin receptor sites remain empty and unstimulated, making the smoker feel the familiar uncontrollable withdrawal symptoms and intense craving to smoke. The problem in that nicotine suppresses natural endorphins production to such a low level that takes many weeks or months to recover. Auricular therapy is believed to stimulate natural brain endorphin release, bypassing the long wait for natural endorphin production, thus removing the craving and decreasing the withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking.
Upon the application of the staples, you should have a strong distaste for tobacco, and most have a metallic taste in their mouth. When the nicotine is out of the body, you will not crave it.
Weight Loss
When you start to chew, you are using your jaw muscles, which are in direct correlation to where the staples are placed. You will notice you are full after eating a quarter to half of your meal. The staples are placed at points that send messages to your brain telling your stomach that is full. I have been told from some of my clients that they get nauseated when they overeat. Save what is left for later because most people eat smaller meals or snacks throughout the day resulting in a smaller calorie intake. That is the point, to shrink the stomach over a good healthy period of time (less than 8 weeks). Your stomach not only shrinks, but the small and large intestine along with the duodenum work with the stomach to decrease the size. This decreases your chance or gaining the weight back after the removal of your staples, but it is possible to gain it back if you don't listen to your body when it's full.
Most people will have a decrease desire or distaste for things they crave. Example: chocolate will taste old or not fresh. Coke will taste too sweet or flat. Pasta will taste gummy or sticky. Beer will taste bitter. Dry mouth is very common.
